The FTTP on Demand (FoD) product is the same physical GEA-FTTP network, but built reactively. As a result, FoD orders have a longer lead time and additional steps for surveying and agreeing costs prior to build work commencing. FoD differences from GEA-FTTP include:
- FoD is built as an overlay to GEA-FTTC areas, providing an Ultrafast upgrade path above the 80Mbps GEA-FTTC bandwidth options. As a result, you may only order FoD bandwidth options of 115Mbps or more.
- Openreach will build the GEA-FTTP network from the Exchange to the CBT reactively, in response to the FoD order. This reactive network build is the essential first part of the overall FoD provision process.
- FoD network build often starts from a fibre “Aggregation Node” that is serving the existing FTTC cabinet in the same area.
- FoD build charges and exemptions are set out in the FoD section of the pricing page on the Openreach portal, here.
