This briefing is for all Communications Providers (CPs).

This briefing is to inform CPs about the withdrawal of the Mobile Infill Infrastructure Solution (MiiS) product.

The MiiS product allows a Mobile operator to place their mobile radio equipment in an Openreach provided cabinet connected to an Openreach provided antenna on an Openreach pole to form a small mobile phone cell site.

The MiiS product has never been launched in Northern Ireland, so this briefing is not applicable to Northern Ireland.

CPs have been unable to order the Mobile infill infrastructure Solution product since 1 December 2022 when a stop sell became operative.

What this means for CPs

From 30 September 2028, Openreach will commence platform closure with a view to complete the decommissioning of all mobile infill infrastructure sites and the removal of the associated equipment.

CPs who are still using the Mobile infill Infrastructure Solution product on 30 September 2028 will lose service and mobile coverage.

CPs wishing to cease a Mobile infill Infrastructure Solution site prior to 30 September 2028 can do so using the normal cease process.

Maintenance and repair of exiting sites will continue as normal until 30 September 2028.
