Locksheath and Whiteley local access and removal of TPON for Whiteley end users
updated: 29/10/2008This briefing is for LLU Communications Providers.
Openreach announces the removal of Telecommunications over Passive Optical Network (TPON) for Whiteley end users.
Openreach is pleased to announce the beginning of a project to remove TPON for end users living in the Whiteley area. End users that may have TPON lines will have a postcode format of PO15 7XX.
Background on Whiteley
Due to the major development of the Whiteley area for both business and residential end users in the last 10-15 years, the local access is unusually complicated.
Whiteley end users were originally within the Locksheath exchange area (MDFID – STLOCKH). However, following changes to the local access over the years, some end users are also served via a remote MDF site geographically closer to the end user premises. This means that Whiteley end users could have:
• Copper lines from an MDF at Locksheath TE
• TPON lines from an MDF at Locksheath TE
• Copper lines from an MDF at Whiteley remote MDF site
Plans for TPON removal
Openreach has recently commenced the replacement of TPON with copper access lines. The copper lines will be served via the Whiteley remote MDFs. The removal of TPON is planned to be completed over the next 6-12 months.
Point of presence at Locksheath and Whiteley
If any customer is interested in placing an order for a Point of Presence (PoP) at Whiteley remote MDF site, it should in the first instance contact its Senior Service Manager or Customer Business Manager for more information about the site.
In order for Openreach to gauge the level of interest, our CP customers are invited to express their interest by sending an e-mail to gillian.allen@openreach.co.uk. This interest will not be binding on either side but will allow Openreach to make preparations for unbundling should there be sufficient interest. Please send your expression of interest by Thursday 12th November 2008.
