Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) Pilot update

updated: 15/09/2009

This briefing on Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) is for all Communications Providers.

This briefing advises all Communications Providers of Openreach’s proposal to move from a technical trial of Broadband Enabling Technology to a Pilot.

This briefing provides an update to Communications Providers about Broadband Enabling Technology (BET).

Previous briefings (LLU007/09 and GEN047/09) provided an initial overview of BET, Openreach’s proposed new solution for long line broadband ‘not spots’, and recently briefing (GEN102/09) advised Communications Providers of Openreach’s intention to move to the first phase of a Pilot at the end of September. This briefing provides the list of the exchanges where we will conduct the first phase of the Pilot:-

Openreach would like to involve as many Communications Providers as possible in the Pilot and would be delighted to discuss the requirements which will enable us to work together and provide an SMPF to a limited number of end users in each area who currently have no broadband service in ‘not spots’ areas within the exchanges above.

Communications Providers should be aware that although BET equipment will be provided free of charge in phase 1 (subject to terms and conditions), standard SMPF pricing will apply including additional rental or connection charges for the second pair required to provide a 2Mb service.

Furthermore, if a CP is interested in responding to any other  ‘not spot’ projects, including those with public funding, Openreach would be delighted to support by providing pricing and information on BET on a case by case basis for our first commercial deployments from early 2010.
