07/09/2012 For Information
This briefing on home wiring is for NGA Communications Providers.
The purpose of this brief is to draw attention to the authorisation requirement GEA-FTTC and GEA-FTTP orderWe have become aware of concerns that our engineers may not be performing some NTE shifts and data extension kit installations as required.
Some orders don’t have the Home Wiring Solution authorised on the order, so engineers don’t believe they’re allowed to do it as part of the job. We understand that some Communications Providers have not included the authorisation of the Home Wiring Solution within the order because of briefing NGA014/11 published in May 2011 when we announced the Home Wiring Solution would be included within the price of the standard GEA-FTTC and GEA-FTTP connection. This original briefing may have led CPs to believe they no longer need to authorise the module as part of the order entry, however this is not the case.
The product description and the GEA contract specify that the Home Wiring Solution will only be undertaken if it is authorised as part of the order. This is required to ensure our engineers deliver the requirements of order and that these are equally reflected back in the engineering notes so that in the event of end-users raising subsequent query with you, you will be able to refer to reliable notes that show we have followed your instructions.
We apologise for any confusion we may have caused. Please review your order processes as soon as possible to ensure that the Home Wiring Solution is authorised on the orders you place.
We are working with our Service Delivery teams to brief our installation engineers about this situation to deal with the issue and we are exploring system design solutions to change it permanently.
