Copper Integrated Demand Testing (CIDT)

What is Copper Integrated Demand Testing (CIDT)?

CIDT is an enhanced new optional line test available to CPs via the existing Dialogue Services interface.

Why should I use it?

If you want more efficient fault finding, greater confidence in the test results,  potentially fewer SFI2 requests and higher customer satisfaction then CIDT is for you.

Key benefits

  • Detects High Resistance (HR) faults that impact broadband but which can’t be found by the Basic Line Test.
  • Improved quality of service and customer satisfaction due to more effective fault detection and fixing.
  • More effective testing gives CPs greater certainty that a Line Test OK (LTOK) means that the issue is within their own domain or in their customers'premises.
  • Cost savings from reduced repeat faults, potentially fewer SFI2 requests and less time and effort spent on dealing with end user complaints and escalations.

Where and when will it be available?

The technical trial completed in August 2011.  Four CPs took part at 119 exchanges equally split across Durham, Wirral and South Liverpool, Gloucester and Portsmouth.

The trial outcomes were:

  • Accuracy of HR diagnosis above target (96% compared with target of 81%).  This means that you can have confidence that there is an HR fault on the line and that this information will help our engineer to find and resolve the issue.
  • Best practise HR repair process developed with the adi of the service teams performed very well and
  • Line test OK diagnostic accuracy increased - This means that you can have greater confidence that there isn't a fault on the BT line and that the issue may lie within your own network.

The trial report can be downloaded from the literature section below.

CIDT is now available to all CPs on lines connected to the EvoTAM or LLUTAM at CIDT enabled exchanges.   CIDT is already available from 90% of the listed exchanges and will be available from all of them by June 2012.

The exchange list can be downloaded from the literature section below and lists the completed exchanges, those due for completion by the end of December 2011 and also by June 2012.

What do I need to do?

CPs don't need to update their systems to R1700 to use CIDT but may need to make local configuration changes to their internal XML and any automation relating to the B2B response/line test diagnositics along with updates to their processes and training.  A specification will be published in the near future.

Contact your Sales and Relationship Manager  for more information on the enhanced test and what you need to do to be able to benefit from CIDT.  Alternatively, you can register your interest in using CIDT by clicking on the Registration of Interest form.
