The local access network – the wires and fibres that connect tens of millions of homes and businesses to local telephone exchanges is one of the UK’s most important assets, and Openreach was created in 2006 to give Communications Providers equal access to it.
We offer them the products and infrastructure they need to meet the ever increasing demands of bandwidth-hungry and value-conscious end users who rely on our network to deliver everything from TV to text messages.
Delivering service excellence and getting things right first time is critical to our success and we place it at the heart of everything we do.
Since Openreach was entrusted with guardianship of the UK’s access network, the telecommunications marketplace has seen nothing short of a revolution. Falling prices and rising speeds have led to an explosion in competition to create the world’s most vibrant consumer broadband marketplace.
But that is only the beginning and Openreach is committed to leading the industry into the next phase of its transformation. We are driving the debates with Government, the regulator, Communications Providers and end users on how to make next generation access a reality, while staying true to the equivalence principles that are so central to the new market we have created. The next generation of access technology will require value creation within the UK market to encourage investment.
We know we have a huge responsibility with ever increasing end user expectations, but it is one we will continue to meet, for the sake of our customers and their customers – throughout the UK.
